Barbara Dutton

Barbara is a highly experienced Ofsted inspector and, since 2005, regularly inspects primary and secondary schools/academies, special and independent schools. She is a qualified teacher and taught English for over 25 years across the full secondary range. She has held various curriculum and senior management roles in schools, including deputy headteacher of a large secondary school in the North West. She is currently governor at a secondary school.

As a local authority senior adviser and Head of School Improvement for over fifteen years until 2017, Barbara worked extensively with primary and secondary schools, post-16 providers and multi academy trusts to build successful relationships and provide advice, challenge and support. This included advising headteachers and governors, reviewing strategic planning, analysing and processing complex information and data quickly and rigorously, brokering and commissioning support to schools and delivering training to ensure effective and collegiate sharing of knowledge. Barbara is a fully accredited school improvement partner for primary and secondary schools. She is a highly experienced trainer and has regularly delivered training for local authorities, whole school training to senior leaders, teachers and governors.

Currently as an independent educational consultant, Barbara has continued to work with a range of schools and academies in different local authorities on all aspects of school improvement, for example leading and co-ordinating whole school reviews, coaching middle/senior leaders, quality assuring teaching and learning, providing Ofsted inspection guidance for leaders and governors and as external adviser for headteacher’s performance management.

She has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Management.
