Gill Bennett has 16 years’ experience of teaching and senior leadership in primary schools followed by 14 years working as a Local Authority school improvement officer for Halton Borough Council. During this time she was accredited as both a primary and secondary school improvement partner.
Prior to leaving Halton Council in February 2016 Gill was employed as Head of Service for Education, 0-19. Following 30 years of fulltime employment in education and school improvement Gill is now working as an independent consultant and trainer.
Gill has more than 8 years’ experience as a governor. She has been a member of 2 Interim Executive Boards (primary), 2 Interim Executive Committees (secondary) and over time has sat on 8 governing boards. Gill is currently serving on 4 primary school governing boards including a primary academy within a multi-academy trust (MAT) and a voluntary controlled school. She is vice-chair of a community primary school.
In her role with the Local Authority Gill led on the recruitment of 20 headteachers across the nursery, primary, special and secondary sector and has also experienced the recruitment process in her role as a governor.
Gill is an experienced public speaker and trainer and has delivered at a number of governor conferences. Her specialist areas include data, self-review and evaluation and support for inspection, schools causing concern and school to school support and system leadership.
