Mark Granby

Mark has been a primary school governor since 2001 and took up the role of chair in 2007. He is currently chair of an ‘Outstanding’ CE (Aided) primary school, chair and trustee of an FE College Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) sponsoring two primary schools and a governor on the Corporation Board of an FE College and of a university. The primary school where Mark is Chair is currently going through the conversion process to form a MAT.

Mark was designated as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) in May 2014 and has supported several primary and secondary chairs and sits on the Bury School Improvement Partnership Board. He has recently been elected as Chair of the Bury Governor Development Board (BGDB) and as Vice-chair of the Bury Governor Association (BGA). Through his role on the BGDB Mark is also a member of the Bury Teaching School Alliance Strategic Partnership Board.

Having undertaken the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) training on External Reviews of Governance (ERG) in 2015, Mark has now undertaken 8 ERGs in a number of schools in different local authority areas. Building on his previous experience as a senior police officer Mark is also an independent lead reviewer for Serious Case Reviews and has also facilitated multi-agency training for a Local Safeguarding Children Board.

Away from involvement in governance in education Mark commits a great deal of his spare time to athletics and is Chair of his local athletic club.
